I caught a Waluigi just now.
I think it's just very neat that this stuff is here to begin with; I always felt this specific forum software was one of the most charming ones for those who enjoy games. Very fitting for the premise of the site. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

Hey there. Name's DarkBowser64 which can be written as DB64 or DB for short. I'm mostly here to browse, but I care quite a lot about the preservation of games and hacks, and my brain is just full of random niche knowledge which can vary from tangentially to totally related to tech and games.
The most I've ever really dabbled in the actual art of hacking is just some very basic Super Mario World stuff that I kept to myself. Other than that, I just check things out. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

I'd like to put in a little suggestion for a personal strong favorite of mine...
That'd be Mario & Luigi: Kola Kingdom Quest, by Gamma V. As someone who loves Super Mario World hacks but doesn't like absurd "you had better be using save states" difficulty, or just overtuned difficulty in general, it's an excellent balance of "standard Nintendo-like" difficulty. It starts about as easy as any Mario game does, or perhaps a bit easier, but gets harder at a similar-enough rate to them, without going too overboard. Secrets are scattered about smartly with some new mechanics as well, such as collecting all the big coins in a level causing a key to spawn, and more of the capabilities of the SNES are shown vs Super Mario World. It feels almost as though it could have been an official expansion pack for the original game made by Nintendo themselves, which is a quality I appreciate a lot in a hack. You could play it on an actual SNES, and not feel like you're getting a worse experience out of it. At any rate, that's just what hack came to mind the most. Kind of gave me those warm feelings like I was experiencing SMW for the first time again. Also, +1 recommendation for Super Metroid Redux. You don't even need the Heavy Physics patch that tries to make it more like Zero Mission. If you go without it, you can still feel a huge improvement in Samus' responsiveness when moving her. Still floaty, but significantly more controllable. The ability to remap the buttons to Fusion and Zero Mission's control layout is also great--no more need to hold down a button just to run, and quick-swapping between your beam and missiles/super missiles is as easy as selecting which one you want with Select and holding down R to toggle between your beam and missiles; no more slowly cycling through your secondary weapons with Select or Y. The map is also improved massively, with the ability to show you that you've gotten all the items on a particular screen just like the later games (unfilled circle for items still on that square of map, and dot for all items gotten), and it will even track the original colors of the doors you've found. Some of these features do require you to enter the pause menu to see, though. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

As said in title. The screen in question can be found here.
I am uncertain if this is a bug outright, or if the data for their franchises was just not there to begin with, but they do appear to be missing from there for me, and it seemed to me as if they should have been there, so I'm just reporting as I see it. I'm not using the Standard theme, but Blue Storm instead, just in case that might be a factor. I know it's probably not a priority, but I just figured I may as well point it out just in case it IS a bug. The screen itself appears as normal, there's just nothing written under that category. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

A game console will often go through a manner of revisions if it enjoyed some success--some which cannot be seen on the surface such as motherboard revisions, and others which change the outward appearance of the system drastically.
Let this be a place where anybody can mention which console revisions are the ones that they personally favor for any number of reasons, such as the outward appearance and aesthetics, feature improvements, changes in system reliability, heat output, fan loudness, pure size differences, and more, and discuss accordingly. Of course, it's not as if the original systems couldn't count for this either. It is all personal preference at the end of the day. They could be home consoles or handhelds; whichever ones you happen to enjoy the most. The world of modding could of course also play a factor, though considering their original feature set might be best in this case. Just as an example, in my case--in terms of home consoles, I really enjoyed the visual change going from the standard look of the original PlayStation to the "PSone" (as it was stylized): The look became a lot more "lite", and I end up thinking of it as a fun "mini" version of the original system--it's hardly larger than the controller, and it even had an optional LCD screen attachment that plugged into the back because of how small the system was, to make it easy to play on something such as a table right in front of you instead of a TV. It might be my most all-around enjoyed revision coming out of a home console so far, though of course, it does get rid of the parallel port on the back similarly to some of the very late-made PlayStation systems. There are quite a few others to mention revisions of as well, such as the Game Boy Advance (AGB-001) which lacked any form of screen lighting, but had the SP version come out not long after with a frontlight (AGS-001), and still later with a proper backlight with the AGS-101. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

Posted by Special There's definitely trade-offs with every model, I'd say. I'm not particularly one or the other on the PS2. I like having the extra space and smaller form factor, but the HDD usage is hard to pass up too! But I guess that's why I have both. They're certainly cheap enough to warrant it. Although I do wish it were possible to leverage the actual hardware backwards compatibility while using HDD loading, but nope... You can only play PS1 off an HDD through the lacking POPS emulator. The PS1 CPU (IOP) is busy managing the HDD, so it can't be both a PS1 and manage the HDD at one time. The only way around that would be an optical drive emulator (ODE) for PS2, but that doesn't exist yet. Hoping for an advancement there. But that is getting a little too away from the topic. On another note, there's also the PS2 backwards-compatible fat PS3s, which are the CECHA/B (full hardware BC) and CECHC/E (partial hardware, partial software BC). Those systems are prone to failure on their own, but hugely desirable. Nowadays, the Frankenstein mod exists, where you can have an expert replace the 90nm RSX GPU on the PS3 for you with a more reliable and cooler-running 65nm or 40nm, and you'll be set to properly enjoy that PS2 back-compat, easily and through HDMI to boot. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

I can definitely agree; this site feels like it has the most potential to be a proper successor that can pretty much continue where RHDN left off. It certainly feels the most like it's already continuing from it. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

I don't tend to do so simply because it just doesn't come to mind to check up on forums from a mobile device. If a forum exists and I post on it, I tend to use it moreso on a PC. On a phone or other mobile device, I tend to check my instant messengers instead. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

Here's a worthy mention of a relatively lesser-known hardware revision; the Japanese-exclusive Game Boy Light.
Since its release was so close to the Game Boy Color, it wasn't released outside of Japan, and even shares some parts with it, such as the A and B buttons. It uses an electroluminescent (EL) display as the backlight, which is the same technology as is found in those older "indiglo" watches, though the color on the Light's screens may vary from a teal bluish to a slight green--on Nintendo's official boxes, the screen is more of a green. Cameras tend to give either a blue or green skew to pictures of their screens depending on the white balance because it's so right down the middle. They use 2x AA batteries like the Color, instead of the 2 AAAs of the Pocket. I ended up getting my own just to see what it was like--it's such an intriguing look when you play on them, and it's also extremely comfortable in low light due to not being full white. They use a transflective display, which means they may be viewed in whichever environment, lit or not, and you can separately turn on the system without turning on the backlight, and toggle the light on and off. It is still an original Game Boy at the end of the day, with the limitations inherent to that (being unable to play GBC-exclusive Game Boy games, and quite the slow pixel response time resulting in some motion blurring). But it was the true first backlit screen produced by Nintendo. In terms of handheld game console revisions, this is certainly one of the more interesting ones to me. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

Despite my being simply a standard user, I have moderation options when I open up the only thread currently available in Hacking Help.
The thread where this issue is currently viewable from my perspective. I was only browsing around when I noticed the options just below the thread name, e.g. "Main - Hacking Help - [Thread Title]". The screen appears as normal, but moderation options are visible, such as "Stick/Close/Trash/Showcase" and more. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

Congratulations! It's great to see this finally finished up. The whole Pokemon Diamond and Jade thing left people with a bad impression of the game at first, for sure.
But there's so much to these games that it's worth giving a proper try. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

Can confirm the moderation options aren't showing up in the thread for standard users, judging by the fact I can't see it anymore.
The thread does still need the title changed back to "The Book of Knowledge", though - but that's a relatively minor thing compared to the issue itself. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

Oh, I had thought those were purchase prices and sell prices when I was looking at it in the shop, but I guess I was mistaken, and didn't look at the stat screen in my profile to see that there was, indeed, a second currency.
But you're right, there do appear to be green coins. But only two things can even be bought with them: the Hyper Beam in the Weapons section, and the Spike Stompers in the Boots section. I've no clue how one gets these coins though... Does anyone have any insight? ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

I'm always playing a little bit of a small variety of games, honestly, but the ones I'm mostly focused on right now are:
Chrono Trigger (PS1) with emulator enhancements to cut the load times to almost nothing (3x disc speed, 3x seek speed in DuckStation), with RetroAchievements. If it weren't for the load times, it'd probably be the definitive "SNES-style" version. I own it physically though, because it's the cheapest physical CT copy you can get still. It's a little easier to handle on a PS2 with Fast Disc Speed mode if playing physically. Chrono Cross - Radical Dreamers Edition (Steam PC). The speedup toggle on a standard NG playthrough is too good, and RDE's been patched to fix the frame rate issues ingame. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

My personal hack idea/request is a color restoration for the DS version of Chrono Trigger to return the color palettes to the SNES version's. Not the highest quality picture example, but it should serve well enough. Not exactly pressing, but I know a decent few people who would prefer it. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

I don't believe I can help in regards to the first issue, but... could the second issue be simply that it measures users active within the past 5 minutes by default?
Have you tried waiting some time after logging out to make sure? ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

I do believe it would be ideal for some of these options to have some outlines, just in case someone is using one of the themes on the site which would make these colors more unreadable. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

The NA NES top loader also did have some very few limited versions which used the Nintendo AV Multi-Out cable, but this was specifically limited to units where people sent the consoles to Nintendo complaining about bad video quality over RF.
They likely simply swapped over some of the AV Famicom's back parts. Either way, these are basically unicorns since they're absurdly rare. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

Indeed, I don't think I'd do something like that. I'd rather just get what I get through posting normally; I won't go out of my way just to post--if I don't feel like I would contribute to the discussion, I just won't.
The shop and items are a fun plus that incentivize using the forum instead of instant messengers or typical social media, and to come back every once in a while to check things out. I certainly don't think they should be specifically the only reason someone is here, though. Although, on another note, I personally think it would be nice if you were able to retain previous items you purchased instead of it basically auto-selling it when you purchase something different for that slot. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |

I've gone with Blue Storm (KP9000) because I enjoy deep, darker blues/indigo colors.
It doesn't look that different from the standard, default theme, either. Very comfortable for me. Old Blue's pretty nice too, and has a slight bit more of a classic feel to it. ____________________ YouTube Twitch |
