Hi all, I'm AnAxemRanger. I'm a Super Mario RPG romhacker. I released that Super Koopa RPG hack a couple months ago. I signed up for this website to support the project. There are many out there like me who don't post very much but still love the centralized romhacking community. Even if Romhacking.net wasn't the best place to get information about the particular game you wanted to hack, it gave you a start. I think this website can be the second coming of romhacking.net we want it to be if we give it a chance. Plus, I'm a fan of the Acmlm board format. I got my start on the old Acmlm board for Super Mario RPG romhacking.

I've started a video series about how to use the Lazy Shell editor for Super Mario RPG. The plan is to create a new video every week, time permitting. I've got the first few videos up now.
Super Mario RPG romhacking is fairly niche these days so I hope my fellow SMRPG fans find these videos useful, wherever you guys might be.

Here's the playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2oB74dpc8tkUgSvkEY0Y0zOmm702nJAR

It would be great if Super Mario RPG romhacking could enter a renaissance of sorts. I'm sure most of the people who were around during the early days of Lazy Shell when everything was new an exciting are much like me: a bit older now when free time is harder to come by. That makes romhacking difficult since it's so involved.

Releasing my romhack a few months ago has made me nostalgic for an era long gone by. I'm trying to breathe a bit of new life into the SMRPG romhacking scene by drawing attention to my hack while also creating this tutorial video series, but sometimes I fear I'm just shouting into the void.

Oh, wow. That might actually be something I take a look into at some point just out of a curiosity, if nothing else.

Also, as an aside, I loved Super Koopa RPG. Got that on the SNES Classic at the office and that is quite a popular title with a couple coworkers.

Glad to hear you like it! Sounds like a fun place to work if you have coworkers you can talk to about stuff like this. My office only likes talking about hockey scores and spreadsheets.

I've been sharing this in a few different places so forgive me if you've seen this already...
I wanted to share some progress on a Super Mario RPG roguelike romhack I'm working on.
You'll battle your way through multiple series of random fights of increasing difficulty.
Notable features include:
-Any 3 party members can be in your battle team. Mario can be swapped in and out!
-New items and equipment.
-Sidequests and challenges.
-"Pit of 100 Nightmares" a challenge similar to the Pit of 100 Trials from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

-Two difficulty settings:
-Normal: enemy stats and attacks patterns remain unchanged from the original game.
-Hard: enemy stats are increased. Attacks patterns, strengths, and weaknesses are adjusted. It'll be harder
than the original, but not overbearing.

The goal is to have it done by the end of 2025. I've got the bones of the structure done so this shouldn't be too unreasonable of a goal.

I'll likely post something here when the project is ready or getting close to it, but I tend to use my Youtube channel for most project related stuff. If you don't want to miss any updates or if you want to show support for the project, please consider subscribing!

It's true. Given how few SMRPG romhacks there are, replayability is pretty important. Hopefully people enjoy it enough to replay it!

Wow, your Lazy Shell tutorials are very good and generally understandable. I have a question for you: will you do more tutorials on this editor, for example, creating completely new monsters, or adding custom music using the audio editor (it's a little unclear to me how this can be done). Or creating fully-fledged new levels using custom graphics (I've heard there's a Trials of Mana game editor from where you can port graphics so you can add them to Lazy Shell later). And where, in principle, can you make graphics so that you can then add them to the SMRPG? (can I use yychr for this, as in the case of Super Mario World ? Or is another editor being used?)

I'm glad you like them! I've considered making additional tutorials for specific issues similar to what you're talking about. My plan was to take the issues that people have the most questions about and make tutorials specific to those, but I haven't had much traction. For example, I've had a few people ask me about adding custom sprites, but now that I've released a video about sprites, hardly anyone is watching it. I'll get a scattered comment here and there asking for help, but they're one-off comments, not comments that make me think, "Clearly people have a lot of trouble with this specific thing. I'll make a video about that."

More specific to your questions, I'm not familiar with the Trials of Mana editor or yychr so I can't tell you if those are compatible. I can tell you that when I'm editing SMRPG graphics, I normally export the graphics from the game as an image file and then edit them using Paint.net. There may be better programs out there, but this one is free.
