The GBA SP, it can play ANYTHING from GB, GBC, and GBA. Great picture quality, great sound with headphones (yes there's an adapter for it), backlight screen, it's the first handheld from Nintendo with a charger instead of wasting more batteries, Honestly I never needed the brighter version because the screen was lit enough already. It's perfect.

Final Fantasy 1 and 2: Dawn of Souls for GBA. Haven't played it in a long while. Starting off with FF1.

Stuff from the early 2000s. Loving that retro-futurism aesthetic from a lot of cartoons at the time. Been listening to a lot of DnB and finding wallpapers for my computer from back then too. Watching some old anime like DBZ (original US dubs), Pokemon, G Gundam, ect. Also been finding TONS of cool websites like https://asciiart.eu which lets me turn images into ASCII.txt format. Yeah it's really oldschool, but I wanna try making my own site and using them for it.

MSU-1 hack for The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, A Link To The Past, and Link's Awakening. While those games already had great music in them, hearing orchestral versions play throughout them makes them feel like brand new while also giving me that big epic quest vibe that fits the Zelda series so well. ^_^

Pokemon MSU-1 hacks need full OSTs from the anime. Pokemon Yellow needs the Team Rocket theme.

Ah cool! A Genesis hack that isn't Sonic. Great work!

There is an improvement hack for Double Dragon II on Sega Genesis.

The Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds is a cool hack of The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past. It's one of those Zelda hacks where you need to survive until you get a weapon. It's a nice long hack that is a complete adventure. It even has different levels of difficulty in different patches.

Super Mario Kart has a Spongebob version that has unique tracks as well as unique racers. It's all Spongebob characters and they all represent them well enough. All the tracks are from the show too. There's even an MSU-1 version that plays Spongebob music in it. The rom hack is called "Super Spongebob Kart."

All 3 Mega Man X games have Zero hacks so I would consider those essential.

voliol, I've worked on some DQ projects, and I'm curious what your aspirations are with DQ6 SNES. That game hasn't gotten nearly enough attention in the hacking world.

Here's an idea: Remaking DQ4 from the NES for SNES as a rom hack of DQ6! :D

Yeah they got around the fixed camera issue by having the camera pull overhead when platforming. It was awkward but it worked.
