This is a short, 11-level Super Mario World hack that I originally made for my nephew for Christmas 2023, but I later updated it. (I'd originally thrown it together in about 2 weeks, so once I had more time to work on it, I could fix bugs, add a bonus level, tweak some level design, and whatnot.) It's fairly easy, except for the bonus level, and there is a light item-collecting aspect.

This is what the title screen looks like. I didn't design a fancy logo for it, though (because again, this was originally made in 2 weeks).

The game starts with a hub area that has portals leading to new levels. Those have to be unlocked by finding gems in levels.

And here's what each of the levels looks like, except for the bonus level that's unlocked by finding all 60 gems. You can see some custom enemies and the like.

If you would like to play the hack yourself, the download link is here.

Looks fun! Why didn't you host it on SMWCentral?

Because the one person from there who wasn't a personal friend whom I had test it basically said that it was too bland and easy, which I feel like would probably be the prevailing opinion.

I really liked this hack. What made the gem collecting neat is the fact that the way they're distributed won't drag you out to dead ends and therefore the flow of the level doesn't get disrupted by collecting. The level lengths are also comfortable to explore and revisit if you didn't get them all the first time. The hub design gives some flexibility to which order you visit levels and begin searching, and no two levels feel alike. It's a cozy way to spend an afternoon IMO and the hack deserves some love.

I just finished it today. It was easy, but I loved it. Nice work.

I gave your hack a shot and so far, I quite like it. Being easy doesn't mean it's not fun to play (seriously, what's with these kind of people who expect something with a Kaizo-like difficulty in a hack?)

I really had fun. Although it needs some little fixes here and there, but other than that, pretty good.
