It would be great if users were able to attach small sized files like screenshots or patches directly to their posts. Nothing huge, perhaps a 1mb-5mb limit or something along those lines.

This is already planned or in the works, as outlined in the thread Currently Unimplemented (and planned) Features:

I'll have a forum and a File Uploader such that users can make a thread with resources to add/update, appropriately tag the thread as such, and I'll manually edit the database myself to make the changes

I think this is meant to be an attachment, rather than directly integrating images to the post. I don't know about the forum infrastructure and costs, but having at least under 1mb or even 500kb for small images would be a huge improvement. Maybe after a certain level or user account/profile the limit could get higher, just thinking out loud.

How to upload and bind images from Imgur

Until then, I recommend to use a third party site to upload images to and bind them here in the forum directly. In example https://imgur.com/upload let you upload images at no cost directly at very high resolutions if you want, without deleting them ever. After upload, click the 3 dots [...] > Get share links and Copy Link to get the image link in BBCode (Forums) format.

Now you just come back to this forum and paste the link that looks like this:
[img]https://i.imgur.com/dRWMJf8.png[/img]
and get this:

Make sure the images stay small in filesize, because unlike attachments these images are loaded for every user and can make the post slower to open. This is just my personal recommendation.

Thanks for pointing me to imgur! Way easier to navigate than the photo sites I used to use back in the day.

In case anyone else randomly reads this thread to figure out how to embed a pic via imgur using a mobile device, once you upload you're pic you then need to hit the "Desktop site" option in order for the ... Icon to appear on your image (at least this has been my experience using Firefox)
