Hello! I go by RT-55J, but you can call me RT or artee. I've been around the romhacking community a long time here and there, since the early acmlmboard days. Back then I mostly just downloaded editors for my favorite games, messed around with them, and then never released anything.
These days I'm mainly a Metroid romhacker. You can find my stuff on Metroid Construction. My proudest achievement, however, is not a romhack, but rather a fully relocatable and commented disassembly of Metroid 2. I dabble with other games from time to time as well. As a hacker, I'd say my greatest weaknesses at the moment are making my own tooling, and anything to do with music. Something else I like doing is making maps of videogames. Recently I've made several maps of romhacks for Metroids 1, 2, 3, and 4, which you can find on my silly website. I also my ZZT games (ZZT being a quaint little game creation system for DOS). I hope this place turns out okay. |

![]() Metroid Construction hosted a contest recently and this was my entry to it. You can find the version I submitted to the contest HERE. The basic premise is hard to explain, but I'll do my best: The name (and thus theme) of the hack comes from a community meme where someone would call the excellent V I T A L I T Y by the name "T O U R O F I T A L Y" instead as a joke. While the theme of the hack is very silly (and I make no attempt to disguise the fact), the actual design of the hack is a very serious attempt at making a non-linear metroid world. Story-wise, the hack takes place between Metroid Fusion and Metroid Dread, but had no shame in taking the story in a very silly direction. As a gameplay experience (level design, etc.), the hack is virtually complete in its current stage, and has been surprisingly well-received by the community. Unfortunately, the need to meet the contest deadline meant that several bits of aesthetic polish were not implemented (spot the errors on the title screen ![]() - Music: This was the most disappointing omission. I (and my wife (and my friends)) wanted a custom soundtrack with siivagunner-ish japes, but I didn't have the time to make this happen. - Level Design (mostly gonna keep the same) -- Fix common issues that made people miss progression points -- Change all gates to be permanent (maybe) -- Add additional rooms with Lore Dumps, for that spicy Italian flavor -- Add animals to the escape -- Add another secret room, to balance the areas - Additional custom graphics -- Fix title screen errors -- Main Menu BG -- Intro Cutscene -- Equipment Screen -- Ending Sprites - General changes -- Polish enemy sprites and behavior in final area -- Fix bugs caused by alteration of the final boss -- Restore the title screen demos -- Custom HUD -- Italian Translation -- Hard Mode (I might be forgetting some things.) Most of these things I should be able to implement on my own, but for some of them I'll probably have to ask some friends for help. I'm mostly creating this thread in an attempt to keep myself undistracted from putting the finishing touches on this hack. |

More screens will come as I work on this. For the moment, I figured that title screen and a link to the current version would suffice. ![]() |

I think it's pretty annoying when a later revision of a system has some nominal improvements, but they cut corners to keep the cost down. For instance, I like the GBA SP's backlight, but the lack of a built-in headphone jack and the worse ergonomics really bring it down for me. |

Unfortunately, we do not live a world where Nightcrawler decided to keep RHDN up and running. We have to make do with what we have, and from the looks of it any bridges between Nightcrawler and a potential direct successor have been thoroughly burned. Our only option here is to rebuild instead. |

Posted by Yuri Bacon There are several options out there, but I've used imgur.com for nearly 15 years with barely any issues. As long as you upload a picture with an account, they will not randomly delete your old images. |

This appears to be an issue with how the raster split in the game is coded. The game is likely updating the scroll registers in an improper order, leading to garbage displaying on screen. Proper, clean raster splits are possible on the NES. The nesdev wiki has some example code here.
The first step to fixing the bug would be to look at the code being executed in the game's IRQ handler. |

If I were to make a rotated version it would have to be "Tour of Iran."
(sorry for the lack of sharable updates -- i've been busy with some stuff) |

I originally got into romhacking probably because the old classicgaming.net had fansites that led me to places like Rage Games, Challenge Hacks, Zophar's Domain, etc., which eventually led me to acmlm's board which was one of my online homes for several years before it imploded.
I mostly just messed around with level editors by my lonesome and made nothing of consequence for several years. I eventually did some early reverse engineering work on MM1 for Game Boy, and then a few years later did some much more extensive RE work on Metroid 2. At this point feel pretty confident with my ASM, game design, and project management skills, but I still feel some trepidation hacking games without pre-existing editors. |
