Hello. I'm commonly known as Mattrizzle* in this neck of the World Wide Web, but I also go by Matt.
I've been part of the greater ROM hacking community for around two decades, joining Acmlm's Board (a flagship community which was run by the same Acmlm who created the Acmlmboard software that board and this site both run on) in late 2004. Long before disassembling and decompiling games was commonplace (and prior to having that knowledge), I was digging through Super Mario World the old-fashioned way (using a hex editor) finding, testing and documenting ROM offsets to tweak several things in the game, many of which are now part of SMWCentral's ROM Map. The first release that I was really proud of was my Super Mario Bros. 2 music patch for Super Mario World. Prior to it, DJ Bouché had created a Super Mario Bros. 3 music patch for the same game. I studied his notes and examined the changes the IPS file made to the ROM in order to make my own (he gave me permission to use some of his arrangements). By the time this was released, it was quickly eclipsed by the discovery/release of the first Japanese version of AddMusic. My music patches and Bouché's do not work on modern, accurate SNES emulators because less was known about how the echo effect worked, and ZSNES and Snes9x inaccurately emulated audio. With all of the new tools (and thus, higher standards) now in place in Super Mario World hacking, I kind of got left in the dust, and began to broaden my horizons to other Super Nintendo games. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, NBA Jam T.E., and the Donkey Kong Country trilogy are a few of these. When it comes to assisting others, my roles are typically artist and/or assembly coder. Golden Yoshi's SMW2+2 and eskayelle's NBA Jam 2K21 as well as 2K22 T.E. hacks are showcases of both. I also contribute to The Cutting Room Floor. When not digging through games to make a ROM hack, it's usually in search of unused content. I probably use "digging" to describe hacking way too often. Sometimes, it's like being a digital "archaeologist". Those who have ever been excited to find some aspect of how a game works after a long deep-dive into a debugger or hex editor will understand. * It's not pronounced Matt Rizzle. I forgive you if you thought that. The name is one an old friend of mine coined during my teenage years. He unfortunately lost his life to congestive heart failure last year, just a couple of years short of 40 (R.I.P.). Initially the nickname was Mattress (as in the part of a bed, given to me due to my stature resembling a mattress), but he later Snoop-Doggified it by replacing the last syllable with -izzle. It has nothing to do with rizzler or related newfangled words that Gen Alpha is using. ____________________ |

It's been a few weeks since I've played games, but am almost finished with The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons on Nintendo Switch Online. Prior to playing it, I finished Oracle of Ages. Seasons is the easier of the two. ____________________ |

Noticed some errors:
Under 4. Classes in Your Posts, topbar1_UID and topbar2_UID should be topbarUID_1 and topbarUID_2, respectively. This is still great! ____________________ |

Testing.
Edit: Did you use the Quick Reply box to reply? It didn't try to redirect that way for me. Pixel 7, Android 14, Firefox 129.0.2 (Build #2016039455) ____________________ |

If it's only a brief reply, I might do it on mobile, though this is infrequent (probably less than 5% of the time).
Typing with two thumbs on my phone doesn't feel very comfortable. I prefer to grip the phone with my left hand and type with the right. ____________________ |

Posted by HiryuuIt makes me so happy to hear this! I really had fun working on the hack with eskayelle (a.k.a. Double Z), and am glad people are still playing it to this day. NBA Jam T.E. is special to me because it was one of the SNES games my brother and I played together the most in our childhood. I even got my dad, who doesn't usually play video games, to play it once. I first got into hacking it (as a teen) because I wanted to add my brother and myself in as players. That led to adding in other omitted players (Jordan, Barkley and Shaq), then making the rosters accurate to 1992-93, and NBA Jam Old-School Edition was born! After eskayelle and I finished NBA Jam 2K22 T.E., he said the following: Admittedly, I've done as much as I can with NBA Jam TE at this point, got all the features on my wish list (huge thanks to Mattrizzle and phonymike!), and the download counts on '22 TE were frankly too lackluster for me to continue with annual releases if I'm not heavily playing them myself. I may reconsider after a few seasons, but for now I'm taking a bit of a hiatus.Though I had the role of coder and made the changes to the background art and team colors, eskayelle was the leader of the project. He was responsible for the main draw of the hack: the updated rosters, including the player likenesses and stats. He also made most of the new courtside ads and picked the new announcer sound bites. All of the changes I made to the game (32-team expansion, 256-player expansion, NBA Jam backboard-breaking restoration, Spectate mode, arcade-style graphic enhancements, etc.) exist in the form of ASM patches. These are what eskayelle dubbed the "Mattrizzle Player Engine." I have held onto them with the intention of releasing them (without the roster updates) as a base for other NBA Jam T.E. hacks in the future, though they aren't super user-friendly to use and have to be applied in a specific order. Some of these patches are prerequisites for others to work. I want to wait until NBA Jam Old-School Edition is finished before I release them. ____________________ |

EDIT: Saw another one after posting my reply in this thread, but it was a duplicate. EDIT 2: Caught a unique one after visiting this thread again! (Regigigas) ____________________ |
