Last view: 341 days 		I've asked about this before in the (former) RHDN discord and forums before, but would anyone be willing to look into making a patch to make Super Mario RPG's menu font behave in the same way that dialogue text does, as a variable width font? I wouldn't think it'd be that difficult, but I'm not honestly versed in that sort of code myself.

I've attached some mock up images to show what it'd look like with a VWF style applied.

Can you post before and after instead of just after picture? Also, this doesn't feel like a help wanted but more like a can you do this for me.

RHDN had a thread for things like this called "Hack Ideas And Requests". We should probably create another one of these threads.


Here's the Before and After screenshots, I hope they work.






And yes, this is request a "do it for me" thread, seeing as the "Help Wanted" description literally says "Have a request..." I figured that this suits that description.

So far, so very good. The game plays much, much better with VWF applied to the text. What's more, the numbers are left untouched. What do you tend to do with the numbers?


What? These are mockups. There's no patch that does this, this is my asking for a patch to apply this effect.

I wonder, has anyone attempted decomping SMRPG? If so, maybe they know where the text rendering functions are. You said the game already has a VWF available it uses for cutscenes, so it should be as simple as changing a jump instruction (more or less). Would be harder if no one knows where the font rendering functions actually are, 'cause you'd have to figure it out yourself.

Not sure if that directly has the functions. I get confused looking at this sort of stuff, so I'm not sure myself.
