Nightcrawler just posted an update in the news section, mentioning some important things about future redirection of links. He also mentions NeoROMhacking.net as a viable alternative to RHDN.

Message starts here:

This is just a minor follow-up. Many people have contacted me in regards to hosting or taking the site. ROMhacking.net runs on top of my web backend platform that other projects and clients use. For obvious security reasons, this is not something that can be given away or taken. It contributes to my livelihood. After what happened, I am no longer in a position to support any partnership options. As previously mentioned, I’ve already provided the site database and files to the Internet Archive. New efforts by others will be required. Anyone can pick things up and continue. What’s there is far more than I had when I started! I’m sure there are some innovators out there that can do the job!

What I can still do is redirect sectional links from RHDN to a new site. This would allow for the existing RHDN links all over the web to continue to be valid, and presumably allow editing to continue at their new location. I saw the promising ‘NeoRHDN’ project by NinCollin on the forum. They have the right idea with an upstanding approach. I look forward to seeing how it develops as a possible option.

As a continued courtesy, the site and downloads will remain online. News is open for project releases and updates. The forum is open for active ROM hacking projects.

I was curious what Nightcrawler would think about these forums. I'm glad he likes NeoRHDN and gave a shoutout.

I'm curious how RHDN's downloads are staying open, since the former Discord staff (now Romhack.ing) were footing the hosting bill until August 20th. Does this mean Nightcrawler agreed to pay for the hosting? Y'know, again?

I guess so? If you look closely to the download links, they used to point to something like this;

https://s3-external-1.amazonaws.com/romhacking-hacks/hacks/ds/patches/.....

Now they go;

https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/XXXX/

So he isn't relying on amazon anymore that's for sure, maybe he got a new stream of revenue somewhere. /shrug

I saw the news update just now over at RHDN, and had to come here. I had already said this on the RHDN forums, but keep it up NinCollin you’re doing awesome!

I can definitely agree; this site feels like it has the most potential to be a proper successor that can pretty much continue where RHDN left off. It certainly feels the most like it's already continuing from it.

He should have never shut down the site in the first place he had no reason to. This forum is just a waste of time and space.

Unfortunately, we do not live a world where Nightcrawler decided to keep RHDN up and running. We have to make do with what we have, and from the looks of it any bridges between Nightcrawler and a potential direct successor have been thoroughly burned. Our only option here is to rebuild instead.

Really, I feel like an endorsement from NC and a willingness to redirect external links is a pretty good sign as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for all the hard work to NinCollin and crew.

That's one thing I like about humans: we have an appreciation for legacy, but a talent for innovative and fresh ideas. No matter how many times our communities are destroyed, we always rebuild.

Your pfp made me hear that in Bubsys' voice and it was beautiful.

I was very uncertain where to go next. After the official shoutout from Nightcrawler, it is NeoRHDN then. There is some trust in his words. Long live the king!

I do hope this will become the successor by being the consolidated place for all romhacking and translation hacks.
Are there any plans to migrate the database and hacks that have been on rhdn, or just new releases? (EDIT: from the looks of it it seems that this has already been done, correct?)

In any way, keep it up you're doing great work. :toot:

Well, at least there's an endorsement from Nightcrawler. Here's to hoping this site becomes the new home for anything romhacking and translations.

If I'm to understand what happened, I don't think there's any way Nightcrawler could keep the site up and running. It sucks that this is what it has come to, but there wasn't really anything else that could've been done. Between financial complications, and copyright being an issue, that "untrustworthy" group (using very loose quotes there) ended up being the final nail in the coffin. It's either this, or nothing at all.
