Yo John, love your work, and I really do hope that you decide to post about your updates on this here site to keep us (well at least me) up to date on them. :D

And I'm still counting down the days until that 7th Saga one finally get a release... but no rush or anything. :P

BTW: This site is actually a little different from the RHDN one we are accustomed too, it actually has many forum sub-divisions for a variety of topics, and the "General Chat" is probably a better place this should have been posted in (not that I care or anything).

Or was this is actually a stealth confirmation that you will be keeping us updated about your ROM hacking adventure on NeoRomhacking lol.

Thanks Special! šŸ˜Š

Yea, Iā€™m definitely considering posting updates here. Iā€™m really not sure if RHDN forums are going to stay open so I will need to post my updates somewhere. I must say, this place is looking like a great place for my updates! Iā€™m honestly not sure when Iā€™ll have another update for the 7th saga. I have just been dealing with a lot of stress and I havenā€™t been able to get through it yet. The stress makes things hard to work on. I still do some things to keep learning but if Iā€™m not learning something new for some reason I have a hard time with rom hacking. I have been thinking about the Elnard English patch and I might try to get back on that soon. When I do, Iā€™ll definitely have some updates.

I do need to look around this new site more. Iā€™m not sure if I seen the general chat but Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll find it. Thanks!

Yeah I saw on RDHN about your updates and possibly moving them to twitter, all I can say about twitter is uh, gross.

Your updates are deserving for a proper home (ie. here) in case RHDN does down completely. I guess call me old school, but I just hate twitter so damn much.

And don't worry about The 7th Saga thing, keep after yourself first and foremost, hacking can come later. And as so long as it never completely dies out, I'll just keep on waiting patently. (NOTE: I probably have about a good 40-50 years left of this lifespan, so if you can by then though, that'd be swell.)

I donā€™t really use twitter much. I posedt my twitter for people to still be able to follow what I worked on just in case RHDN shut the forums down. The forums are definitely better for sure.

There is a few bugs that were found for the Elnard English patch, I think Iā€™m going to create a new update for the beta patch that fixes those. I just realized the disassembly that Iā€™m currently making is for 7th saga but Iā€™ll need one for Elnard so all of the code is clean and nicely placed inside the rom.

My sleep schedule is messed up right now so yea, I think Iā€™ll start on that patch after I get some food in my system and after I create the update Ill post it in a new topic here for the Elnard English patch

Hi John, and everyone else! Am also new to this site, and this seemed like a place for greetings. Like, there surely is a greeting thread I just haven't identified yet, but why not say hi here too?

Hello, and welcome to NeoRHDN! I see you found the introductions. Are you a rom hacker? If so, what consoles do you hack?

Yup, a ROM hackers of sorts. The Universal PokƩmon Randomizer touches on most Nintendo handhelds, so I got some experience with the OG GameBoy to the NDS. Plus the SNES/Super Famicom since I picked up Dragon Quest VI. Haven't finished a ROM hack of my own though, so am more of a tool person (yet).

How about you? You seem recognized by people; a veteran (is that the right word here?) from the RHDN forums?

Yes, I do some hacking. I have been a member of RHDN since around 2009. I mostly work on snes stuff. I haven't really made a lot of stuff. I mostly like playing around with code to learn how different things work. I have learned a lot and I like helping others especially with compressing/decompressing data. One day when the time is right I plan on reconstructing the 7th Saga and Mega Man X for the snes and adding a bunch of new features. The 7th Saga is the game that got me into snes hacking and I was able to learn how to hack because of RHDN.

voliol, I've worked on some DQ projects, and I'm curious what your aspirations are with DQ6 SNES. That game hasn't gotten nearly enough attention in the hacking world.

Well, just about anything, cobbling together some tool that I may or may not use for a demo hack. Currently some data has been found, such as the monster/item IDs and some of the strings, and the grid(s) for the overworld encounters (did you know near where you catch the wild horse there are 2 tiles with high-level monsters? Like the infamous FF cape). But these aren't really usable yet. Though the strings are identified, these can't really be edited until I figure out how the game points to them. Similarly the encounter grid(s) refer to encounter sets by byte, but I've either not found the encounter sets themselves, or they are encrypted/in some annoying data format.
So what's the plan? Well, to get enough to make an encounter/monster stat/item stat editor, or whatever easier-to-modify data type is found on the way.

I also got some grander ideas, but grander is the word there, and after the first tool/demo mod I imagine that will be it for DQ6 for a while. Got other projects to juggle as well.

Very cool stuff! I'd love if your editor could let us add the mistakenly omitted resistances from the final upgraded form of the (eventual) Zenithian equipment.

I know this has little to do with your project, but if you'd ever be interested in collaborating on an addendum patch that corrects things like the menu bug and the missing English text in NoPrgress's translation, my team would be happy to provide any translation work, testing, and general refining of the script.

Huh, did not know those had been omitted. My only real experience with the game is playing through the DS version 2-ish times. Very formative, but not enough to know of any non-obvious quirks even in that version of the game. And for quirks only found in the SNES version, the only ones I'll know of is the ones I rediscover myself.

Thanks for the offer! Will keep it in mind :)

EDIT: made a thread for it, if you're interested: https://neoromhacking.net/thread.php?id=83

Here's an idea: Remaking DQ4 from the NES for SNES as a rom hack of DQ6! :D

So do yā€™all think this new site will be the ā€œofficialā€ successor to the original RHDN? I guess time will tell.

I think it will. Custom layouts, a fun little RPG side game thing, as for any errors people run into that's usually fixed as soon as it's reported. There's still some games listed under rom hacks that have no hacks at all, but it's starting out so i'll give it time to grow.
