Updated the Level 1 Cap hack to account for the Venus + Cockatrice card combo that gives the Walking Exp effect.

Whenever I include just my birth month and day without the year, it instead displays today's date.

When I put 10/05:

When I include a date with a year (11/01/2001):

Really, I feel like an endorsement from NC and a willingness to redirect external links is a pretty good sign as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for all the hard work to NinCollin and crew.

That's one thing I like about humans: we have an appreciation for legacy, but a talent for innovative and fresh ideas. No matter how many our communities are destroyed, we always rebuild.

Your pfp made me hear that in Bubsys' voice and it was beautiful.

Sounds like an interesting translation, I might have to check that one out!

I haven't been playing or watching much in recent months, but I've been off-and-on playing the first Silent Hill game on PSX. Obv, the old tank controls kinda suck but I've gotten used to 'em and the atmosphere of this game is unmatched by anything I've ever played aside Yume Nikki/2kki.

Added another patch for the Level 1 Cap because Iron Golem was pretty much impossible on Fighter Mode without removing its regen. The green fives will pop up, but it's not really regenerating.

Update: made the fives into zeros so it visually matches with what's happening in the health data for the boss!

I think it's mostly a quirk of the Famicom/NES drawing tiles, could also be a programming error but if you look, SMB3's bottom HUD has a line of pixels where sprites and tiles disappear just before the actual design of the HUD. Pretty sure it's just old hardware being old hardware.

That would be sick, I think there'd be some major copyright issues with using the themes from the anime series though, unfortunately.

I have just recently joined this board, and I would like to know how to hack music for Super Mario All-Stars.

For example, unlike the original NES SMB, in SMAS, in both SMB and SMB2J (or SMBLL for U.S. parlance) in world 8-4 the music does not reset between scene changes when going down pipes, a la SMB3 in some fortresses.

What I would like to know exactly is how SMAS fixes the castle stage music in SMB and SMBLL so that it does not reset between scene changes, in case there is anyone who wants to fix it to the old NES way (so that the music does reset between scene changes, and the return of the water music in the underwater portion in both games).

~Ben (SMB2J-2Q)

Link to the music addresses in the ROM Map on SMW Central

Try lookin' through this! The game likely has code to simply continue the song currently playing if the next loaded sector after a transition uses the same music, so if you play around with the game and use this as reference, you could probably inject some ASM or hex edit in a way to make the game simply load the song from the beginning.

Can't go too in-depth with how to do that and where it's located in the game since I'm not involved with SMAS hacking, but I hope this helps!

Edit: I also recommend using Mesen (Multi)'s debugging features to look at the code while the game is running to help you figure this out as well, it's a great emulator for debugging!

While that's certainly interesting, I very much suggest playing the game in Mesen Multi and using the Memory Viewer and Debugger features to analyze the code and watch whatever might be reading anything related to the music assigned to a level. It highlights data being read, written to and executed, and the Debugger window is great.

Are you newer to ROM hacking btw?

What's "streamed music"?

"Streamed" refers to music that isn't sequenced.

Sequenced music is when you use a sound engine to define commands that are coded to produce notes, octave changes, enable/disable effects like vibrato and tremolo, etc. This uses channels that are assigned instrument samples in the game, which are often changed throughout the song as well. You essentially code a note sheet for the sound engine/processor to understand.

Streamed is like an MP3, OGG or WAV file. It's data that plays pre-recorded audio.

The reason I put quotation marks around streamed here is because while the songs are kinda sorta streamed, they're actually really long samples that have to be kept playing and looped properly through code playing sequences.

There is a decent way to do it, using the "resize" and "overflow" properties in CSS.

Resize Property
Overflow Property

I don't have an example of this at this time but we'll see if I can make some example code for you that would probably go in your post header or somethin'.
