Game Description |
Getter Love is a party game where you compete in a dating/social simulator. It has one main game and 3 VS games that are all similar and can be played 1-4 player.
You play yourself against 3 others. The objective? Confess your love to one of seven girls and be accepted OR have a girl confess her love to you and be accepted before anyone else does. Along the way you may encounter one of the 35 unique dates and 28 different endings. See if you can find them all!
Each day you get 3 chances to run around town chatting with girls and locals. Purchase and collect items along the way. Collect topic balls to give you an edge and find out more about everyone. Make sure to stay well rested and keep your style up or else no one will want to be around you. Compete in minigames alongside or against the other 3. Use those items you've collected. Some give you special dates, some boost you or take down your competitors, and some help keep you safe. Most important of all, find that special someone and make her happy.
If you're having any trouble with gameplay or you want to give yourself an edge, from the Main Menu choose Options then (1). You'll find answers to all your questions and some helpful tips.
One interesting tidbit - Getter Love was created by Hudson Soft at the same time as Mario Party, though by different teams. They share many similarities - they're both party games where you collect items to advance yourself or hinder others, and right up to that last moment you never know who is going to win. Getter Love came out about two weeks before Mario Party.

Translation Description |
25 years after its initial release, and 4 1/2 years in the making, Getter Love is finally in English!
Along the way a Sound Test menu was discovered and restored. There was text for about 30 songs, but the released game had 44 songs total. So songs 27-44 were given names based on how they fit into the game. There are 5 songs that are only one long beep or hum - about half in the original section and half in the new section. The names were left the same in the old section. Just know that these songs were not removed by us. The sound test can be found in the Options Menu choice (5)
Finally, there is one section of the game that isn't perfect on purpose. Before choosing where you go for the day you have a wheel where you can look at items, see future dates, etc. There isn't much room for text for four players all looking at the same time so the text spills out of the text box. It doesn't look great, but no other solution could be found on such a cramped screen that would still keep the game pace fast.

Getter Love currently does not work well on most emulators. Get the best play experience on a flash cart such as the Everdrive64 or the SummerCart64. If you have to use an emulator, so far the best suggestion has been retroarch's mupen64plus.
There is also a patch that restores only the sound test (no translation) here: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/8274/
Translation by Wid. Game hacking by ozidual. Special thanks to McKnight for his help! Also thanks to the programmers who created encoding software to re-compress the images in Getter Love. One can be found here: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1768/
1.01 updates a dozen or so lines of text. It was missed in the rush to get the game released on the 25th anniversary. |
