Translation Description |
This patch translates Flashback for SNES from English to Spanish. It needs to be applied to a headered PAL / European ROM, to the version of it that includes 2 languages: English and French (ROM CRC32 checksum: 5DAFAC3E); not to the one that includes 3 languages: English, French and German. This will produce a patched ROM that completely replaces the English text with Spanish language, with all its special symbols and characters (¡, ¿, ñ, ü and accents), as well as low case and upper case letters. This patch also adds accents, "ç" symbol (called cedille) and lower case letters to the French text, since the original version of the game just included lower case letters into the English text, printing the French dialogs on screen just in uppercase letters with no accents, as a way to solve and avoid the need to include special symbols in the limited space for the ASCII table graphics (instead sacrificing unused ASCII symbols, like the asterisk, "@", "#", "*", etc.).
All texts have been translated from scratch by Rod Merida, in the year 2002 (being one of his very first ROMhacking projects). A recent review of the script, with some corrections, has been done in the year 2020, tested by Vicks Dg, both of them members from Crackowia translation group.
Due to the fact that the PAL ROM was the original version of this game, since its creator, Delphine Software, is a French company, and since it was a port from the version of Flashback for Amiga, designed to work at 50 Hz, this project has given priority to the translation of the PAL version (that benefits from the full TV screen, as opposed to PAL counterparts of many other games whose very first version was NTSC, either Japanese or American). However, future updates of this project might include extra patches for translating the NTSC 60 Hz ROM (intitled as "Flashback - The Quest for Identity"), as well as 3 language PAL ROM.
Also, there exists a version of this translation for Mega Drive, that may be obtained through this link: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/5788/ . |
