| Translation Description |
This patch translates Final Fantasy III US for SNES from English to Spanish.
It needs to be applied to a headered FF3US ROM, 1.0 version (very important: HEADERED).
It restores the original Japanese title screen.
A first version of the patch, called FF6ESP.IPS, keeps the translated ROM in NTSC format, at 60 Hz.
A second version of the patch, called FF6ESPAL.IPS, modifies your FF3US ROM so it's synchronized accurately when played in PAL systems, at 50 Hz; this way the music will match with the gameplay during the Opera, intro and ending events.
Those who like to play with the American "Final Fantasy III" logo may restore it by using an extra patch called logo_FF3.ips, though.
This translation is respectful with the original FF3us Woolsey's script, but it considers the Japanese original text in those dialogs where there was misunderstanding, distortion of the original meaning or censorship.
Most of enemy, skill, magic and object names have been translated from the Japanese version though, with some exceptions where the American version objectively improves the original one (like renaming the unit "Sargent" as "Trooper" = "Tropa"). Names as main characters' have been kept as in the American version (like TERRA, SABIN, Kefka), as well as certain key words, like Blitz, "Esper", Magitek (hispanized to Magitecno, unless the optional patch "magitek.ips" is applied), and names whose American counterparts sound better, such as Gestahl (respelled as Ghestal) vs. Ghastra, Katarin vs. Katrina, Duane vs. Dean or Maduin vs. Madeen. On the other hand, Woolseyisms, that is, those changes where names have been switched by something made up for apparently no reason, have been reverted to the original: examples of these are Mina instead Elayne, Madaline instead Madonna, or most of Espers' names: CaitSith instead Stray, Quetzal instead Palidor, MidgardSorm instead Terrato, Lakshmi instead Starlet, etc.
The word "Magitek" has been hispanized as "Magitecno", but an extra patch is included (magitek.ips) that allows to respell every mention of it from Magitecno to Magitek in the whole game.
The result has been a professional, careful and deeply beta-tested work.
