Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei
Super Nintendo
Game Description
Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei is a remake of the first two Megami Tensei games for the Famicom.
Translation Description
Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei is a Super Famicom remake made by Atlus, of Namco's original Megami Tensei and Megami Tensei 2 games on the Famicom. It was released in 1995 and was the last game in the Megaten series to be released on the Super Famicom. This translation patch modifies all Japanese text and graphics into English, save for the title screens which have subtitles instead in order to preserve their original art.

The two games play very much like an old-school first-person RPG dungeon crawler. But what sets it apart from the rest, and what made the Megami Tensei series so unique, is that it incorporates a system of recruiting and fusing together enemy demons to strengthen your party.

Megami Tensei 1 is a re-telling of the original FC story, and references the original Digital Devil Story novels by Aya Nishitani. The game takes place in one large labyrinth, separated into 6 different regions each with their own enemy leader. It is very light on exposition and story, but should be fun for those who like to explore dungeons and slay monsters.

Megami Tensei 2 has a unique story not tied with the novels, but still makes references to the first game and has most of the same game systems. It added a new third-person mode for traveling the world between locations, and more equipment slots such as firearms and cloaks. The story is much more involved compared to the first game, and has a wider variety of locations to visit. It also seems to have been an inspiration for Atlus' own Shin Megami Tensei games, with the themes of a post-apocalyptic Tokyo, betrayal and tragedy, and deciding to side with the forces of heaven or hell.

The SFC remakes add their own special events and dialogue to the original games, and also allow a player that beats the first game to continue straight into the second game, which unlocks additional events and items.
