Game Description |
Breath of Fire II is the second entry in Capcom's Breath of Fire series of role-playing games.

Translation Description |
This translation features some of the most impressive hacking work I've ever seen.
Right at the start, the game will perform a complete checksum test on itself to verify that you applied the patch to the correct ROM before it let's you start. Of course the result is stored in the internal battery so you don't have to do this every time you start up the ROM. This prevents people from applying the patch to the wrong ROM, very nice.
Next you are greeted with an impressive new introduction video featuring full Japanese vocals. Jumping right into the game the veteran BoF2 player will immediately notice the vastly improved new message windows. They've been expanded to give more screen space. Last but not least the windows are now fully transparent with a nice gradient effect (You can turn this off from the game's options menu). After all these technical improvements it's not surprising that the game also features a nice looking variable-width-font text routine.
Another addition to the original game is the implementation of a dash button (the original was very slow) and a new overworld effect similiar to that of Lufia II.
The translation itself is very well done. The text is styled well and very fluent. Compared to the horrible official English localization this one is an extreme improvement.
This patch is one of the most impressive translation efforts to date and a must try for all German speaking RPG fans. International users can eagerly await d4s' English version.
Note: This patch was designed to run perfectly on the original hardware. The emulator Snes9x has issues with the intro's vocals and is not recommended for this release. |
