Dunno when/if I'm ever coming back to this, because other projects ROM hacking and not keep me busy ^^... and life I guess too. However, FuSoYa made it much easier with an unexpected return of Lunar Compress. From the files in the download:

Version 2.00 November 11 2025

-added a new format used in DQ6 (LC_LZ21).
-fixed a bug in recompressing format LC_LZ20 (Marvelous).
-updated the SNES/PC color conversion functions to use a newer method
that results in slightly brighter colors and pure white on SNES
being pure white on PC. Also added a flag to use the old method
instead.

---
LC_LZ21 DQ6 [D] Another Enix format. You must set Format2 to
the exact size of the decompressed data when
decompressing.
---
[D] = Data

Am also unsure what exactly "Data" means in this context, my guess would be text and/or the maps, since those should take up much space in the ROM and I couldn't find the former when I tried looking for it. The fact that the size of the decompressed data must be known is annoying, but surely overcome-able.
