Talking to Oz74 about the Kiseki series kind of made me go down the memory lane a bit regarding gachas. I had undusted the Langrisser Mobile app sitting around being unused for a very long time. Not because I lost interest, but I simply didn't have the time to sink into it. And I've thought about a few of these type of games I've played up to this point.

What gachas have you played, and did you get any enjoyment out of them?

My first was Fire Emblem Heroes, and that was my introduction to these type of games. However, that game had severe issues I could no longer look past, and I eventually dropped it.

I ended up picking up Fate/Grand Order because I'm a huge Fate series nerd. (I mean, why else do I have a Caster icon next to my name and the pfp of a Caster class servant?) And I still play Fate/Grand Order, even to this day, only this time, I've been mostly spending my time on the JP Server.

At the same time, I was also playing Langrisser Mobile with my friends, but due to the lack of free time, and circumstance, we all stopped playing altogether. I've just recently came back to it. Who knows how long I'll play, though. My time is limited, and it's only a matter of time before I'll have to make another tough decision.

I played a lot of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and I enjoyed it for awhile, though the gacha elements were what drove me to stop playing it when they got introduced, so maybe that doesn't count as playing a gacha game haha.

Check out my site! It's got a bunch of projects I've worked on, including homebrew and a virtual world about collaborative map building that's RP focused.

Fate: Grand Order, Arknights, Touhou LostWord, Pokemon Masters EX, Disgaea RPG, Mahjong Soul, Riichi City. In that order. Survivors are Arknights (3 years straight), Mahjong Soul and Riichi City (about a month).

Arknights is easily the winner in the entirety. Although I place Ling in the front here, the reality is I have a much better crew in the back. Not to mention my super maxed out Ch'en.

FGO died due to Aniplex being a greed factor with their gacha system. Arknights, by comparison, is way more tolerable. The problem is the gameplay is significantly more chaotic and most certainly not for everyone. You will fail a lot in the game.

The others fell out due to disinterest or drying up entirely. Disgaea RPG hurt. I love that series.

Yeah, the gacha system for FGO ain't great, and even with the adjustments they've been making to it, it's still not enough to make it actually a good system. I've been mostly sticking with this game because of my aformentioned affinity, but I have never done any real life splurging on it. In fact, outside of FE Heroes, where I did spend a little and instantly regretted it, I have never spent a single real life cent on these gachas. I know how predatory they are.

Before you quit FGO, did you manage to snag an Ishtar and/or Ereshkigal on your way out? :>

Both. Ishtar I had nearly maxed but not for copies. I left before Space Ishtar was a thing. My primary focus, however, was Nero. By and large a fan, even though the Rin-types are obvious for myself.

Forgot to mention but, years before, PangYa most certainly qualified. If FGO was horrible, PangYa was faaaaaaaaaar worse. Very good game, though. Mercifully, it's now relegated to private servers.

And I'd imagine you've probably caught wind that Space Ereshkigal is now a thing. I currently have her at NP2 Lv100. Eventually, I will have her NP6 Lv120. I'm a huge Eresh simp. Let's see if that promise holds before I quit the game, or before the game gets EOS'd. xD

This is probably the first time I've heard of PangYa. I took a look at the video, and while the game certainly looks impressive, it's probably not the type of game I'd play, haha.

It's definitely a sit-down casual thing. One hole may take four players about 10 minutes to play through.

- Langrisser (my daily chore)
- Arknights (love dearly, miss you)
- Mario Kart Tour (PvE was fine, but the roster and PvP were a dumpster fire)
- Final Fantasy Brave Exvius for 5 minutes on launch day (can't remember why I didn't get into it.)

I'd still be keeping up with Arknights if I had more phone storage. Favorite operators I used were Ifrit, Suzuran, Heavyrain, and I invested pretty heavily into Perfumer for my main healer despite being a 4-star - she obviously can't keep people under heavy assault alive at higher level stages alone but she does a great job keeping the general group healthy. I haven't logged in in at least a year and a half though, and neither my story progress nor how I tend to do on the contingency things is very impressive... but I did love decorating my base lmao

With Langrisser, I'm deep into Gelpais and haven't started on some of the newer content in last month's update nor the portal leap. Stuck on Odin when unlocking covenants, ready to look up a guide for once, and the one time I touched Ragnarok content I got BTFO extremely hard, which was eye-opening in that I need to build way more units rather than just investing in my top handful like I have been for Time Rift and the main story. I'm still trying to pull for Brightsummoner. Out of crystals at the moment, don't spend for them, and I think I have 28 pulls until the pity SSR which, 40% chance it's her, then I can save free pulls for the next collab. I purposely leave a ton of uncompleted Gates of Fate on dozens of my characters just for easy farming, especially since they often give 18 or 27 gate chances a day in rotating weeks now. I'm dumping my resources into Lina Inverse right now since I never actually built a long-range mage despite having several. I lack Young Jessica for Light of Genesis's bonds and my Lucretia is 5 stars, I have enough Imperials built for her to be useful, but Lina is a nuke machine, and is not going to miss much if I don't bring her faction buffs.

It's no secret as to why, either, especially if you get her module unlocked and her stats and potential maxed out.

Especially when she can heal more than three at a time with her module (now four with it)...but even if she can't, you can put her in a corner. She's doing passive heals and she's one of the few that can heal tanks like Mudrock that can only be cured by their own passives or Perfumer's. She is still very viable, even without skill investment, with that alone.

Oop. Good luck with Brightsummoner. I'm also going to pull for her -- once I get my hands on Eshean. I currently have her and Elwin on the returning Oathsworn Summon banner. I have Elwin at 6-star 100 shards so I can farm Spacetime Essence as a worst case scenario. Well, actual worst case scenario is being spooked by an off-banner hero, but the less I speak of that, the better for my sanity. Currently have 50 Eshean shards from exchanging a Spacetime Essence. Here's to hoping I'll get her soon, so I can start pulling for Brightsummoner.

Storywise, I think I'm still in the 2nd continent. I've gotten really lazy over the years, but I'm slowly trying to rectify this -- I'm finally working on my Time Rifts, having done Time Rift 14 and Time Rift 15. I've neglected these long enough and it's time I finally do something.

Sure. I saved some of my characters for 3-5PM for Guild War sweep if you wanna join me and I'll get you 5k medals to cash in for materials to enhance your heroes. It's fresh so every tower is open and you'll get all the rewards that way when I close the GW, but I've only got Nightmare unlocked since my guild is really small. If you've found a home in a bigger guild with Catastrophe, I completely understand (usually those ones are really hardcore and too demanding for my own schedule though, so this is my niche.) I'll pitch you an invite if I see you online. We can auto-run while you're idle too since my characters can carry secret realm, and it'll save you burgers for the stuff that you'd want to delegate in like when we get new events, e.g. we actually have another crossover in ~2 months and they haven't rerun any from CS3 onward so I don't have high expectations that we get another chance at any limited characters other than LLRs/Wettham/Apotheosis/Awakened One anymore. The Imelda alt LLR Sovereign of the Ice Abyss should be coming back soon if they stick to the CN schedule too, and she is extremely powerful.

When I'm back at work, I'll typically be on in your AM hours for 1h instead since my lunch break usually falls there, but this week and next, I'm open in your PM hours.

Redirecting from the Currently Playing thread to avoid clutter there. :>

I'm still working on my Aniki training, so we could run those. I haven't turned on my Continuous Battle yet. I have Lancer Training and Magician Training heavily invested into, both of them have 80% to all stats. But the rest could use work, especially in HP, Def, and MDef (all classes has at least 70% attack)

I also, admittedly, haven't done any Joint Battles since returning; Primarily because I haven't had the opportunity to. I usually get on too late for the first one, and the second one is during my active hours, which I often spend with my friends on other games.

Speaking of new events, I did peruse the link you sent me. None of the event characters interest me enough to want to pull for them, and the other banners have characters that I would've pulled for if I didn't already have them. More copies would be nice, but I'm laser-focused on getting Eshean and then Brightsummoner, if I can. I have a mostly-princess box, so those are my priorities. Feels good to not have to pull for a limited character at least, though. FOMO never feels good. Just ask about my time playing MMORPGs, ahahaha.

Fire Emblem Heroes is the only one I have bothered keeping up with. Attempted playing touhou lost word in the past as well as grand summoners, just ended up always forgetting about them within a week

actually right as I posted this I remembered that one gacha game I loved, Angry Birds Fight. it's too bad they cut off the servers and took it off the app store like, 8 years ago...

I forgot I actually attempted that one. Left after a few days.

As for Lost Word, a lot of things Touhou doujin, in this day and age, don't really strike me as worth my time. It's not like it used to be for the fandom, at least in the gacha side of things.

And in that same concept there are games that break my words on such a thing. Every so often I see a glimpse of something good in modern times for that franchise. I'm sure ZUN's getting pretty tired heading into Touhou 20...

I tried Fire Emblem Heroes. Played for about 2-ish years, then dropped the game entirely. That game was amassing a large number of problems that either went unfixed or became worse overtime. The worst of them being my favorite characters were getting left behind due to powercreep. Powercreep killed PvP-like modes like Arena, Aether Raids, and Summoner Duels; granted I wasn't the biggest fan of those modes anyway, but the powercreep had gotten so out of control that it bleeded into all of the other gameplay, including main content that I was playing. I had invested into +10 Laevatein before quitting, so I had achieved my main goal anyways.

MarbelSoda perfectly described in words I never could have why I could never stick with this game. The game was flawed from the start, but was broken in such a way that I could never justify playing it. More power to you for keeping up with it, but I just couldn't.

I don't understand why they gave a game like that IVs and basically made it impossible to max out characters without phenomenal luck. I'm not sure how much worse it was made after the short time I played it after launch but I didn't want any more of it after I did so. It wasn't all that interesting to me either. If I'm gonna play FE, it's going to be a full-bodied experience, not that small-grid crap.

I can get by the tiny grid low movement issues if Fire Emblem Heroes was, you know, an actual game, and not a hedgefund operator that looked for every opportunity to sap the player out of their currency. Their Modus Operandi was always simple:

1. Create a problem.
2. Sell the solution. Major emphasis on "sell." You're spending money/currency to fix the problem they made.
3. That solution becomes the new problem.
4. They sell a new solution to said new problem.
5. Rinse repeat.

I know someone out there is going to tell me "You play FGO. How is FGO any better?", so I guess I'll address that elephant in the room.
Well, FGO doesn't lock a lot of the currency you need behind things that require very high and very heavy investment just to even function in said modes. And while there are some over-centralizing servants, you can get by without them because you can simply just use your friend's servants. And furthermore, FGO is a purely PVE-focused game, so a lot of the problems revolving around needing to do broken PvP content just to get currency you NEED doesn't apply to FGO.

Also unrelated, but FGO actively tries to buff old/neglected servants. Even if some of the buffs don't actually help, at least an attempt was made. Intelligent Systems doesn't even try. FEH releases heroes, and forgets about them in a month. Your favorite waifu was released in Year 1 and desperately needs a buff? That's a shame, because they won't get one. She's stuck doing nothing in particular in the later content because IS only cares about new and shiny things.

I'd hate to turn my posts into Anti-FEH propaganda, but I have very strong feelings about this game because I expected better from a company that gave us very good games beforehand. My FEH experience was soured so much that I didn't purchase Three Houses, didn't bother with Engage, and turned down my decision to get Fire Emblem Fates, which I was once on the fence on. That's how bad my experience was.

IVs are a million times more manageable now due to stuff like trait fruits and ascended florets tbh and honestly I don't think they're terribly essential for new units pulled anyway. IVs are a very 2017/2018 issue.

maybe I should try out FGO again, but I've never actually watched/played anything Fate related, but then again, I didn't touch anything Fire Emblem related before playing Heroes in 2017...

on the topic of FEH currency, there isn't really an orb drought like in the 2019 era. there's a lot of orbs you can get these days, especially since a billion or so chapters have released since the last time you played, and stamina is barely even a finite resource anymore (although, I think the barrier for entry with stamina is a bit higher with new players, but the game will give you so much stamina bottles that it's really you can just go get orbs until you get bored or something)
and on the topic of heavy investment, the game gives you.... 8? or so great 5 star units for completing chapter 1 of each respective book and tbh with that and whatever free brave unit is available at the time, you can steamroll everything that isn't lunatic mode (and lunatic mode is doable, even cheesable sometimes, just not always easy)

powercreep is annoying, and the way the numbers have gone up is annoying, but the game is honestly outright generous with resources in the year 2024, and has been for a while tbqh

FEH does this too, idk the last time you played but legendary seliph, who was once straight up the worst legendary hero, was given a buff that made him one of the best tanks in the game. Gen 1 kind of got screwed yes but every new unit that's come out in the past 5 or so years has been able to stay viable tbh. even the gen 2 Lewyn I run is still very good, because his buff was excellent.

the thing about Heroes that you have to buy in to is the collector aspect of it, idk, maybe the game is pretty bad... i don't think it's terrible but I guess I don't have defenses for a lot of it's problems, like powercreep, and gen 1 being screwed, but I think it being pretty bad for fire emblem is still more interesting gameplay than I've ever gotten out of another gacha game. and off topic to the thread's topic, not buying fates is a major missed opportunity, that game is really fun and most FE players will tell you Conquest is one of the best games (gameplay wise - story is a whole nother issue)
