Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure features multiple covers of Josh Mancell's previous work in the PSX Crash Bandicoot titles. These tracks make up a majority
of the game's music, and are used for the same purposes those games had. The theme composed for the Ice Levels in Crash Bandicoot 2 is re-used here for levels
that use the same aesthetic, for example.
Interestingly, the game has covers of Dingodile's Theme, Tiny's Theme, and N. Gin's Theme from Crash Bandicoot: Warped. While these characters do make an appearance in
this game as bosses, these tracks are oddly 'swapped':
- Dingodile now has N. Gin's Theme.
- N. Gin now has Tiny's Theme.
- Tiny now has Dingodile's Theme.
It's not known if this was an intentional choice on the development team's part or not, since no release of the game corrected this and Cortex's theme from Crash 3
is correctly assigned to his boss fight. However, it's a very odd choice if you're familiar with the original trilogy's musical tracks.
This patch 'corrects' that so each boss has the boss theme they had from the PSX titles, fixing this odd little inconsistency. Rejoice!
As a bonus, the game has a 'main menu japan' theme that was seemingly intended to play on the Japanese version's title screen (judging by the name given to the track). However, the Japanese version never actually uses this track there, and instead re-uses 'main menu europe' from the other releases. The patch for the Japanese version of the ROM fixes this issue, and now 'main menu japan' plays on the title screen!
The .7z includes three patches. Use the 'tha' patch if you're using a US ROM, the 'xs' patch if you're using a EU ROM, or use the 'advance' patch if you're using a
JP ROM.
A special thanks to byvar/Raycarrot for their contributions to GaXM (https://github.com/byvar/gaxm). This made locating the track listings in each release very easy to accomplish. Hex editing was then used to swap the tracks around.
