This hack improves the French translation of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX, by adding support for various diacritics and ligatures.
In the original game, uppercase letters don’t have any accents. This is due to a technical limitation: space was available only for two diacritics, but French needed three (acute, grave, circumflex).
With this hack:
- the existing but disabled partial support for french diacritics is re-enabled,
- the script is rewritten with accents on uppercase letters where needed,
- circumflex accents can now be displayed along acute and grave accents,
- ligatures for œ and Œ are now supported.
For instance, the following text is changed:
- "OEUF SACRE" now properly reads "ŒUF SACRÉ"
- "TOUT SUR L’EPEE TOURNOYANTE" now properly reads "TOUT SUR L’ÉPÉE TOURNOYANTE". |
