NeoRHDN - Hacks - Hack Information

Sonic Drift 2 SMS
Hack of Sonic Drift 2
Description
This is a hack of Sonic Drift 2 for the Sega Game Gear. It is made by the infamous Shibunoa, the hacker that took Sonic the Hedgehog fansite Sonic Retro offline for days and deleted many files off their server. This hack ports the Game Gear game to Sega Master System, meaning there is a bigger screen size.

==Features==
*The palette uploading routine has been totally rewritten.
*Button 1 now starts the game instead of the Start button as the Master System lacks a start button.
*The ROM checksum has been fixed and the game will boot with US/European BIOS.
*Full Screen. There is sometimes some garbage on the screen mostly due to the original game writing "useless" stuff in the parts of the tilemap not shown on screen.

Note it's not possible to pause during races as there is no Start button on the Master Systems controller. It's also not possible to exit demo mode and the player must wait for the demo to finish.

Had Shibunoa not been ostracized from the website that the hack had been posted on then the hack may have seen a further release with more bugfixes. Despite the hacks flaws it is fully playable.

The patch is in xdelta format. Remember to change the file format to .sms instead of .gg. Patch to the JP version of the ROM.
