Fossil Fighters is a creature-collecting RPG, is the vein of Pokémon. However, this comparison is rather reductive, for several reasons. The first is that the creatures in question are, with a few exceptions, real-life dinosaurs which have been brought to life, and indeed there is even a museum in the game where one can learn about the real creatures and where they were discovered. The second is that the means of "catching" them is entirely different, making use of an engrossing fossil cleaning minigame that shows off the DS' touchscreen and microphone capabilities. Finally, the battle system is completely different as well, with 3-on-3 fights and shared action points that replenish each turn. All of this, combined with this first game's quite unique plot, make the game worthy of playing in its own right, and not dismissible as a mere "Pokémon clone."
